Meet the Team: Ryan Evans and Abi Powell
This month we’re shining the spotlight on two members of our busy manufacturing team – Ryan Evans, our Manufacturing Manager, and Abi Powell, our Production Planner and Administrator. With over seven years at Newmor, Ryan brings a wealth of experience to managing the day-to-day workings of the factory. Abi, who joined us just three months ago, has already made a strong impression with her attention to detail and love of a good spreadsheet!
Despite being at very different stages in their Newmor journeys, these two work closely together to keep things running smoothly behind the scenes. We caught up with them to find out more about their roles, their favourite pastimes, and what it’s really like working side-by-side in such a fast-paced environment.

Name: Ryan Evans
Time at Newmor: 7 years
What is your role at Newmor, and what does a typical day look like for you?
I’m our Manufacturing Manager – Typical day would be checking my staff levels then change my plan accordingly, speaking to my supervisors and team leaders, responding to emails, then keeping an eye on workflow and dealing with any issues that may crop up throughout the day and night.
What’s a part of your job that you enjoy the most?
The challenge of it all.

Name: Abi Powell
Time at Newmor: 3 months
Any Family past or present at Newmor?
My grandad worked at Newmor during the 90s with two of his brothers, who still work here today. My second cousin, Sian, also works on the design team here!
What is your role at Newmor, and what does a typical day look like for you?
I am the production planner and administrator here at Newmor. A typical day for me involves preparing production worksheets for the factory team with the accurate information they need to fulfil orders on time and to specification. It’s a busy, fast-paced environment where attention to detail, clear communication and teamwork are key.
What’s a part of your job that you enjoy the most?
With being new to this role, one of the parts I enjoy most is the opportunity to constantly learn new things. Whether it’s gaining a better understanding of our processes or picking up new skills, the opportunity to always learn helps me feel more confident in my work each day.

How do you find working together with your different levels of knowledge and experience?
Ryan: Very easy, Abi is extremely smart, easy going and picks up things very quickly which means I can trust that whatever Abi is tasked to do, will be done right and I can concentrate on other concerns.
Abi: Working with Ryan has been great, his level of knowledge and experience has been excellent in allowing me to develop my skills and contribute more effectively to the team.

Favourite:
Ryan
Place – Africa – Its where I was born so it stays with me. I’m from the bush so enjoy being out in the wild, only place I’ve ever felt at peace, and the only place no matter how long I have been away from it, whenever I go back, anywhere in Southern Africa, it just feels like home.
Saying – You know what I’m saying is my saying – I feel this saying has been copied a few too many times!
Hobby – Controversial and boring maybe but I love fishing and hunting. Just being in nature really, it was something that I was brought up on and it became part of me.

Abi:
Place – One of my favourite places has got to be Anglesey. I have a lot of memories of spending time in Anglesey while growing up, exploring its coastline and walking through picturesque villages, there was always something new to explore. The combination of breathtaking views and its peaceful environment makes it a place I always look forward to visiting.
Activity – My favourite activity is definitely hiking. I love exploring new areas and trails however Snowdonia will always be a special place for me. Hiking for me is a great way to spend time with family and friends while appreciating the natural environment. Every hike is a new experience and I can’t wait to complete more challenges in the future!
Hobby – In my spare time, I spend a lot of time taking my English springer spaniel, Angus, for long walks in the countryside, exploring new trails while spending quality time with him. I also enjoy running and the opportunity to set and reach personal goals.
A massive thank you to both Abi and Ryan for taking part in this instalment of our meet the team series! To see more of our team’s instalments, go to our blog.
