HIX Event 2021
We had a great time exhibiting at HIX 2021, at the Business Design Centre in London. It was our first show since 2019 and it was amazing to see so many clients, friends and colleagues from the hotel design industry. Here’s a round-up of trends that we spotted at the show, and a look at our stand.
Through expo, talks, installations and networking, Hotel Interiors Experience (HIX Event 2021) celebrated and brought together the people that represent the hotel interiors supply chain. It connected both established and emerging brands: creators of bathrooms, fabrics, furniture, lighting, objects & art, spa & wellness, surfaces and technology with the designers, interior architects, specifiers, project managers, operators, procurement and developers who bring the guest experience to life.
Newmor Stand, HIX 2021
We removed all the colour from our stand to let our new branding take centre stage, and also to highlight the fact that colour, pattern and texture is what we do best. We used a hand-drawn street scene digitally printed wallcovering, a bespoke printed cobblestone carpet from our carpets collection, cardboard cutouts and we painted and hand-illustrated the bench and cabinet to complete the effect. The stand design received amazing feedback and made a real impact.
Trends from the Show
There were so many amazing brands at the show, and it was great to see what they’ve all been working on over the past year. Here’s a quick look at a few of the trends we picked up on.
Rounded Shapes
Offering a sense of continuity and calming energy, rounded shapes appeared everywhere at the show, from furniture and surfaces to lighting. This fluid look creates an intriguing cocooning effect.
Rattan/Wicker
Drawing on the current trend for natural materials and craftsmanship, this look was everywhere. From ornate bamboo lighting to rattan flooring, many brands used this look to add texture and warmth. Mixed with big, lush green plants, dramatic blacks and midnight blues, warm neutrals and terracotta and burnt orange.
Earthy Surfaces
Raw, earthy, textured decor is will be dominating the design world in 2022. Rustic, yet contemporary, this style echoes the colours, appearance and finishes of the natural world. The defining material used within this aesthetic is stone or clay textures, accompanied by artisanal accessories.
Monochrome
Black paired with warmer neutral shades like putty and off-white, painterly effects, raw surfaces, or minimal, stark and symmetrical, the effect is fresh and striking.
Warm Neutrals
Barely there, warm, earthy neutrals were everywhere. Warm, friendly tones of oatmeal and linen looked super contemporary. Think fleshy toned, earthy jute, canvas, wool, wood and hemp.
